We play against Manchester City, not Haaland — Erik Ten Haag

Erik Ten Haag will lead Manchester United in what will be his first Manchester Derby since his appointment. The Dutchman was named the manager of the month of September and said he is excited by the prospect of playing his first Manchester Derby. He also expressed confidence in his team’s ability to continue its winning streak in the match at Etihad on Sunday, October 2 2022.

Manchester City is currently five points ahead of the Red Devils. And the obvious threat Manchester United will be facing is the Norwegian goal-machine.

Since his Summer move from Borussia Dortmund, Erling Haaland has since settled into life at City. He has gone on to score 11 goals in seven matches so far — three more than the whole United team.

The Norwegian man will be going up against Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. However, the Reds’ coach has said he won’t concentrate on stopping Haaland.

“We don’t play against Haaland, we play against Manchester City. They have a good team, more than 11 players. But also if we act as a team, in and out of possession, then you can beat such opponents”, Ten Haag had said, at the pre-match press conference.

“That is the belief we have to take with us when we line up, when we start the game…”
