Old Trafford was the venue as Manchester United locked horns with stubborn West Ham for round 13 of the 2022/23 EPL. The match took place on Sunday, 30 October 2022, at 5:15 p.m. GMT.
The first half ended in favour of the home side, 1-0. The second half, however, was barren, and made sure the scores remained 1-0 for a Man Utd victory.
Man Utd was impressive, again, and started on the front foot. Diogo Dalot fired a low cross into the West Ham box and Rashford miscued it after rushing in front of Ronaldo.
Anthony Elanga also got through on goal but his left-footed tame effort from inside the box rolled out for a West Ham goal kick.
The game was tepid and had a scarcity of clear-cut chances. Both sides struggled for control, which resulted in occasional sloppiness on both ends.
In the 38th minute, however, Eriksen volleyed a powerful cross into the box. Marcus Rashford leaped and headed a rifled shot into the West Ham goal for his 100th in a United shirt.
In the second half, Ronaldo could have doubled United’s lead after Rashford sent him through on goal. However, the 38-year old didn’t have luck on his side. He hit the ball too hard and the ever-lifting ball went out for a goal kick.
The second half was a similarly drab affair, but the major highlight of the half was the De Gea save at the tail end of the game. Declan Rice drilled a shot from outside the box and De Gea dived to the right to stop the shot at 90+1 minute. It ended 1-0, for the home side’s victory.
Manchester United now goes above Chelsea to fifth position, with 23 points and a +1 goal difference after 12 games and one outstanding. West Ham remains 13th with 14 points and a -2 goal difference after 13 games.
