Former Wolves defender and Brazilian, Fernando Marcal, captained Botafogo for an away trip to Goias. It was in this fixture that he was awarded a bizarre yellow card.
The Brazilian defender spent two years at the Molineux Stadium before departing on a free transfer to the Brazilian Serie A team, Botafogo, in his homeland.
Marcal was booked in the second half after he tried to throw a football at a drone flying above the stadium while his teammate was down and receiving treatment. As a result, the referee booked him for his third yellow card of the season. This discipline will cause him to miss the game against league leaders, Palmeiras.
Botafogo will definitely miss the presence of the left-back against Palmeiras who currently lead them with 23 points.
Marcal believes he’d have been a good addition to the Brazil national team with The Little Canary hoping to clinch a sixth World Cup title in Qatar this year.
He said “looking at the current scenario, not only of the players in the Brasileirao [Brazilian Championship], but also in the world, I would make the Brazilian team play better on the left side”.
“Back then, the national team didn’t need a player to do as much as Marcelo once did. Today, they need more security and good ball output. It’s more my style”.
“You can’t say if there is a better one than me, they’re different styles. But looking at the world stage, I see myself as a better fit for this team”.
