Barcelona visited the Mestalla for the round 12 fixture of the 2022/23 La Liga season. The game took place on 29 October 2022, at 8:00 p.m. GMT.
After the first 45 minutes, both teams were still deadlocked at 0-0. At stoppage time, Lewandowski put the visitors in front to snatch all three points. 0-1, it ended at the Mestalla.
The first real chance came in the 13th minute when Pedri set-up Ansu Fati for a one-on-one situation. The Spaniard tried to lob the keeper, but the ball was saved by the keeper’s face.
In the 23rd minute, Fati again was denied, this time, by the referee. After a deflection off Lewandowski, the ball fell nicely for Fati who finished calmly. The goal was ruled out for offside.
Two minutes from halftime, Jordi Alba delivered a brilliant cross to find Lewandowski whose effort hit the bottom of the post. An all-Barcelona first half eventually came to an end.
After the break, the Valencia team thought it had gone ahead. But VAR struck out the goal for handball. Valencia pressed for a new opener but didn’t really threaten Barca.
In the 84th minute, Barcelona had a chance to score when Raphinha sent Pedri through. The midfielder played a low cross to find Ferran Torres who somehow miscued from five yards.
In the 90+2 minutes, however, the deadlock was broken. Raphinha, again, played a looping ball that found on-side Lewandowski. And with the outside of his right boot, the Polish international placed the ball beyond the Valencia stopper. The goal snatched all three points, and sent Barcelona to the top of the standings.
Barcelona now has 31 points and a +28 goal difference after 12 games. Valencia slipped into 10th with 15 points and a +4 goal difference after 12 games.
